Do I need a 200-amp panel to install an EV charger at home?
In most cases, yes. A Level 2 home EV charger draws roughly 30 to 50 amps on its own, and if a 100-amp panel is already near capacity with cooling, cooking, and other appliances, adding an EV circuit can overload it. Homes over 3,000 square feet or with electric heat and air conditioning typically need 200-amp service regardless.
What's the difference between a 100-amp and 200-amp electrical panel?
A 200-amp panel supports significantly more circuits and total load than a 100-amp panel. 100-amp service is often sufficient for smaller homes with gas heat and basic appliances, while 200-amp service is recommended for larger homes or homes adding central air, a pool, hot tub, or EV charger.
Do I need a permit for a home electrical panel upgrade?
Yes, in most areas an electrical permit is required for a panel upgrade, and the work must be performed by a licensed electrician. We supply the correct panel and components; your electrician handles the permit and installation.

How do I know what wire gauge my home project needs?
Wire gauge depends on the circuit’s amperage and length — for example, a standard 20-amp circuit typically needs 12 AWG copper wire. Your electrician calculates the exact gauge from the panel schedule and run length; we supply the correct wire once you have that spec.
